巨鲸出水,王者归来。潇如风现在为您呈上最新托福网考的真题回顾。阅读第一篇:Early Cultivation in Africa,当头一棒。朋友,什么叫骄兵必败?还没读文章呢,你自信 MY ASS 呀。第一道是细节题:为什么 plow 在 Africa 没有普及开来?答案:There were not enough animals;倒数第二道,细节题:为什么这块土地不适宜用 plow 开垦?答案:the thin topsoil … exposed in the sun. 最后一道是总结题(Prose Summary),即六选三,我没来得及做就到时间了。盯着那个小方框:You have reached the end of the this part of... 我的心一凉到底,欲哭无泪。要知道,有三道题跳过了还没做呢!
看来,除了了解考试,还要了解自己,自己的思维方式和性格特征。找到盲点,对症下药。比如我吧,偏执型人格,长于分析、较真儿、且追求完美,恨不得万无一失,因此最容易犯的毛病就是答题不果断,不能按时完成。那么平时复习的时候,就应该限时间以提高速度。
再比如有的同学,长于输入(reception)而不善输出(construction),要他说或者写出点什么难如登天,头脑空空,无从下手,那么口语和写作就是他的薄弱环节。针对这两个方面,就应该多下点功夫。我课上讲的“二分法”等手段,就是针对这种问题的。
第二篇文章出现:Pollen Analysis in Archeology. 满分梦想破灭,我豁出去了。兽性大发,把键盘和鼠标统统搬上桌子,像贞子一样爬过去,抱着电脑,用手指着屏幕阅读。视力不好,又没有鼠标垫,别扭得很。稍微有一点不如意,我就自暴自弃。哎,性格缺陷!
第一段:某科学家在 swamps 里采集了很多 pollen,用来进行考古研究,以确定岩石的年代。第一题的正确选项是最接近主题的那一个,忘了,不是第三个就是第四个。
第二段:具体鉴定手段。通过多处采样,进行比较,得出结论。推理题:What can be inferred … 答案:Pollens cannot be collected in only one place. 细节题:What are the common characters of the American and French …? 没找到答案。
第三段:花粉分析的局限性。推理题:What does the author imply … 答案:Pure use of pollen analysis may draw incorrect concusions. 修辞目的题:What is the author’s purpose of mentioning Paragraph 3 in the larger discussion? 上下文查了半天,才敢选第一个选项:To put biologists’theory to a test.
这次考试中推理题(Inference questions)和修辞目的题(Rhetorical Purpose questions)出奇得多,极没人性。而且,每篇文章中至少有一道题目,没有给你提示位置,没有小箭头,你必须到全文检索。太刁钻!不过,简单的题目也不少,比如词汇题(Vocabulary questions),我直接选,一枪一个,弹无虚发。凄凉,只能靠词汇题找回点自信了。
做完成了最后一道题(Prose Summary),还剩三分钟。What the hell, 直接点 Continue,跟解气似的,进入下一篇文章:The Legitimacy of Governement.
第一段:法制的前提。第一道是细节题:According to the author, what must be formed before legitimacy is established? 答案:a common believed structure.
从第二段开始,用黑体字标出了三种:Inheritance Authority ( 继承式权力 )、 Charismatic Authority(信仰式权力)和 Legitimate Authority (合法性权力)。一种权力占一或两段,全文很有条理。分类如此清晰,你应该猜出最后一道题是什么了:Fill in a Table ( 填表题 )。
Inheritance Authority ( 继承式权力 ):修辞目的题:Why does the author mention the European and African…? 答案:To give an example of an authority that is inherited. 推理题:What can be inferred about the European and African Kings…? 答案:It is difficult for them to adjust to the changes of society. 指代题:their… 指的是谁?答案:The European and African kings.
Charismatic Authority ( 信仰式权力 ) 有一道推理题:What can be inferred about the Charismatic leader? 答案:Most of them are related to religion.
Legitimate Authority ( 合法性权力 )有一道细节题:What must be assured to guarantee the power of a Legitimate Authority? 答案:Anyone who violates the law must be punished.
需要检索全文的题目:What are the central thought that runs through …’s of theory?答案:The government form must be in concert with societal changes.
最后一道填表题,三种权力纵向排列,要求填入各自的特征,不难。只是最后一个 Legitimate Authority 填两个,犹豫了一会儿,终于选了lay emphasis on principles, rather than on an individual. 另一个虽然说得在理,但文中没有出处。
记住:如果你的文章都是提前做完,一路点击 Continue 进行下去的,而不是电脑自动跳闸,你最后就能尽情享受 Review 键的便利之处,反复检验全部三篇文章的题目。
正准备做听力,却发现又蹦出了一篇文章 – 遭遇加试了。忍辱负重,接着阅读。但石头很快落地,这是两篇经典的加试题:Sumerian Civilization 和 Reproduction and Environment,即探讨 Darwin’s Theory of Evolution 的那一篇,fish 产卵,short beak finch 和 long beak finch 等等。头天晚上扫了一遍机经,没想到还真派上用场了。有几道题直接选择,根本没去找答案。节省时间倒在其次,最主要的,那份窃喜令我军士气大增。
可能你说,加试不算分,你胡选,或者全选第一个不就得了?我可不敢冒那个险。五篇文章,很难说他把哪篇当加试,哪篇当考题了。人家随机抽三篇,你认为是加试,人家也许算分了。别玩这种小聪明。
听力部门
听力考试开始。听力是我这次考试唯一复习的部分,花了一周时间,做了六套TPO。潇某好面子,怕人家说:老师您还用复习啊。所以我只准备了我认为最重要而且最难的听力部分。不过你听我一句话,复习没复习,下多大功夫复习,成绩绝对不一样,至少10分之差。
第一篇对话:某男生去找女教授,就 essay 问题,质疑课堂进度,主旨题答案是第二个选项:to question the schedule of the course. 他问老师怎么还不讲 review,教授说你先多读几首诗再说,review 会干扰你形成自己的观点。第二题:Why does the professor not allow the class to read the review? 答案是第三个:to prevent the review from affecting the students’ own opinion.
教授进一步解释:好的诗歌是充满激情的,full of emotions. 第三题:Why does the professor mention Wordsworth?答案:To give an example of a poem that has universal appeal.
第一篇 lecture 是 from a business class. 主题:Code of Conduct(员工的行为准则)。主旨题答案:discuss a method of managing an organization.
教授提问,怎样制定 Code of Conduct 呢?一女生说,向员工征求 feedback;一男生试探着说,借鉴其它公司的准则。注意,这里有双选题。分类列举的地方一定要仔细听并且记笔记。参考《托福听力五禽戏》中的《托福听力考点》。
至于怎样执行,男生说把它贴在墙上,女生鄙夷:How effective would that be? I think you should spread it out so everyone in the company can read it. 情景理解题(Pragmatic Understanding Question),录音回放:How effective would that be? 答案:She doesn’t agree with the man.
细节题:Why does the professor mention making phone calls in the office? 答案:To give an example of ...conflicts... 最后一道是情景理解题,录音回放:...so everyone in the company can read it. Well, not everyone...though. 女生语气明显变得不自信。答案:She’s not sure her way is effective.
第二篇 lecture 的主题是 marine life. Coral reef 使鱼染上了颜色。男生猜鱼的颜色一定是为了求偶(mate),瞧,Boys will be boys;教授提醒他:But many fishes have the same color between male and female,含义:它们无法互相吸引。第二题回放这句话,问:Why does the professor say this? 答案:The professor thinks the man’s answer is incorrect.
接着女生纠正:I think the color helps them to blend in... 保护色帮它们融入背景当中,以防被predators 发现。托福考试中,男生永远不如女生聪明,饱含美国特有的反歧视精神(affirmative action)。教授肯定女生的回答,继续讲鱼是怎样保护自己的,直至全部 lecture 结束。
听力第二部分开始。对话:某大四男生来打听住宿的问题。他问自己耽误没耽误寝室抽签(lottery),女工作人员亲切友好,说 no problem. 男生问有两人间(double room)吗?工作人员惊讶:It’s been a long time from now since I ever talked to a senior student who actually WANTED a double room. 录音回放这句话,情景理解题。答案:She is surprised by the man’s question.
