1，What is Memory?
什么是记忆？
There are different types of memory. Some things we need to remember just long enough to accomplish a short-term task. We remember a telephone number just long enough to write it down or dial it out. But language acquisition involves long-term memory, which requires time and repetition to develop.
记忆有多种类型。有些记忆只足够你完成某个短期任务，例如重复几个单词或句子应急，事后就忘得一干二净。或者记一个电话号码直到把它写到纸上或者拨打出去。而掌握一门语言需要形成长效记忆，而长效记忆的形成需要时间和一定量的重复。

Learning a language is like learning how to play a musical instrument. Frequent and effective practice is the key. The skills of listening and speaking, in particular, require speed. To develop this automatic ability, practice, with a lot of repetition, and without text support, is essential.

Studies of the brain and long-term memory formation show that repetition is very important to skill development. Listening and speaking abilities are skills to be developed, not knowledge to be learned.

Listening and reading use different pathways in the brain. Using text as a support interferes with the development of listening and speaking skills.
