全部否定和部分否定在英语语法中算是比较基础的，但是并没有像完成时，强调句，倒装之类的能引起托福考生们足够的attention，因此，全部否定和部分否定很容易被理解错误，导致在托福阅读或听力考试中失分。今天，小马过河就来跟大家细讲一下全部否定，部分否定！

部分否定和全部否定是相对而言的，就想对错一样，没有对，也就没办法评出错！全部否定就是对内容完全的否定。美国人经常说的一句话：he is not bad. 中国学生比较喜欢翻译成：他不是很差劲。而美国人真正想表达的意思却是：他很不错。两种翻译还是存在差别的，相对来讲，西方人的翻译更正面一些！英语语法中的全部否定和部分否定还是很好区分的，只要记住那些关键词，就可以判别！

no, nor, none, never, neither, neither ... nor ..., nobody, nowhere, nothing，not at all, on no account, not in the least, by no means, in no way

eg: neither she nor he is American.

她和他都不是美国人。

There is not any water in the bottle.

瓶子里没多少水。

there is no water in the bottle.

瓶子里一点水都没有。

而往往很多人会把there is not any water in the bottle翻译成瓶子里没水了。准确来讲是不正确的。

值得注意的是，no修饰作标语的名词时否定语气很强烈，有时具有特殊意义。

She is no singer. 她绝非歌手。（她根本不会唱歌）

She is not a singer. 她不是歌手。（她也许懂得唱歌）

通过以上对比，应该是比较清晰的！

下面来看部分否定！

部分否定，也就是在翻译的过程中，翻译成“不都是，并不全是”一般以两种形式出现：“代词+not”或“副词+not”。

先看“代词+not”结构

首先明确是哪些代词：both, all, every, each, everyone, everything, everybody等，在美式英语中，把否定词not放在这些词前，以突出其部分否定的意思。

Eg: not everybody in this class loves music.

并不是班上的每个人都喜欢音乐。（部分喜欢）

Not all patients in need of dialysis receive government compensation.

并不是所有需要透析的病人能得到补贴。

再看“副词+not”结构

表示全体意义的副词与否定词连用也可表示部分否定，如：not everywhere, not altogether, not always, not entirely, not exactly, not generally, not quite, not completely, not necessarily

Eg: we should understand that rich people are not necessarily happy.

我们应该理解富有的人未必是快乐的。

再来看“not ... and ...”结构！（比较值得注意！）

在此结构中，and连接两个状语、定语或表语等时，否定的往往是and后的部分。

She didn’t explain this passage correctly and clearly.

她对这篇文章解释得很正确，但不够清楚。

如果把and换成or，那又是另外一个意思了！

她对这篇文章解释得既不正确也不够清楚。

当and来连接两个并列的谓语成分时，not往往否定谓语，表示and所连接的两个动作不能同时发生。

Eg：Don’t drink and drive.

不要醉酒驾车。

You can’t put on airs and make everyone like you.

你不能装腔作势来让每个人都喜欢你。
